Who We Are

G.R.O.W_edited.png

"The more you know, the more you grow!" is the focus and motto of the G.R.O.W Tutoring Program. G.R.O.W., an acronym for Generate Real Opportunities and Wonder, is a non-profit program that emphasizes peer to peer relationships to help enforce the importance of literacy and STEM (Science Technology and Mathematics) into young minds. G.R.O.W. is committed to increasing diversity in STEM and prioritizes working with students of underrepresented backgrounds. With the G.R.O.W. Tutoring Program students experience that not all learning has to be done at a desk, but can be executed and taught through hands on activities and most importantly, fun and friendship.

Why G.R.O.W. Was Created

After tutoring Detroit students for a year through a local organization, at the age of 11, Maria was inspired to found G.R.O.W., to accentuate the value of literacy in young minds across through Detroit through school supplies and book drives and reading to kids anywhere in the city—schools, homeless shelters, foster care facilities.

After developing an interest in STEM in high school, Maria incorporated STEM education into G.R.O.W.'s mission. As an underrepresented student, she wanted to make sure to uplift and encourage students of underrepresented backgrounds to pursue STEM.

What We Offer

G.R.O.W. strives to make the future of every child a bright and successful one by providing students with educational materials and guidance to discover the best within themselves. To accomplish this we offer programming year round. Some of our event opportunities include literacy and STEM tutoring, guest readings, all-girls coding workshops, and STEM enrichment activities. We are always looking for ways to expand and welcome all creative event ideas that promote our organization's educational focus. G.R.O.W. frequently works with its partners in collaboration to present effective and meaningful programming to communities.
